Padres pitcher Jacob Nix tased during alleged dog-door break

San Diego Padres pitcher Jacob Nix has been arrested for breaking into an Arizona home through the doggie door, leading the homeowner to kick him in the face and attack him with a Taser.

The husband told Peoria Police he was woken up around 3:30 a.m. when he heard sound coming from the doggy door located in his bedroom, the police report said. A police report notes the husband told his wife to grab his handgun but, unable to retrieve it, she instead handed him a Taser. The homeowner confronted Nix, kicking him one time in the face.

Police spotted Nix and Cosgrove a short distance away and took them into custody.

Tom Cosgrove - also a pitcher in the Padres organization - was with Nix during the incident and was also arrested for criminal trespass after admitting he entered a backyard. Nix then entered the home through a doggie door, at which point the owners of the home called 911.

Speaking to police, Nix said he and Cosgrove had been out that night and dropped off by a rideshare at a house he believed to be his home.

"This is my fault, I can't blame alcohol but I was inebriated", Nix said. Online records show NIx does not have an attorney. After suffering a ligament tear in spring training, he began making minor league appearances in July and he has been participating in the Arizona Fall League with the Peoria Javelinas. Cosgrove, plays for the Lake Elsinore Storm, an Advanced A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, according to Minor League Baseball's official site.

Nix has a status hearing on October 14.

The Padres released a statement on Thursday, saying, "We take this matter seriously and have been in contact with the Commissioner's Office and local authorities".

Nix started nine games for the Padres in 2018 before spending last season rehabbing an elbow injury. The team will not comment on the situation further due to "ongoing legal proceedings".
