They also met with the president's son Donald Trump Jr. later that month at a fundraising breakfast in Beverly Hills, Calif., along with Tommy Hicks Jr., a close friend of the younger Mr. Trump who at the time was heading America First Action.

The businessmen, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, were arrested in connection with a NY case involving campaign finance laws, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan said.

Mr. Giuliani, President Trump's private lawyer, identified the two men in May as his clients.

The relationship between Parnas, Fruman and Giuliani has still yet to be entirely unraveled, however, the two foreign-born Floridians have pushed right-wing conspiracy theories to President Trump's personal lawyer in attempts to discredit high-profile Democrats like Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden.

The indictment says Parnas and Fruman "sought to advance their personal financial interests and the political interests of at least one Ukrainian government official with whom they were working" and took steps to hide it from third parties, including creditors.

Two other people who were charged in the indictment were David Correia, a USA businessman, and Andrey Kukushkin, a Ukrainian-born US businessman.

Mr Parnas and Mr Fruman are accused of circumventing these laws through a money-laundering scheme.

It's Confirmed: Andy Murray Will Play At 2020 Australian Open
Andy Murray will be welcomed back to the Australian Open in January a year after the tournament bade him an emotional farewell. Remember he said goodbye a year ago. "For sure Andy will be here", Tiley told the Australian radio station Triple M on Tuesday.

A separate set of allegations is reserved exclusively for Parnas and Fruman. This included contributions of $325,000 and $15,000 to committees in May 2018, "to obtain access to exclusive policital events and gain influence with politicians", the indictment says.

Parnas was Giuliani's fixer in Ukraine, introducing him to current and former officials as far back as 2018, according to CNN's reporting. "We take our legal obligations seriously and scrupulously comply with the law and any suggestion otherwise is false".

House Democrats have launched an impeachment inquiry over allegations that Trump tried to use his office to sway Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to order a probe of the Biden matter.

"I referred them to a campaign finance expert who pretty much resolved it", Giuliani said two weeks ago.

Mr. Dowd wrote a letter to the House Intelligence Committee last week advising them that he was representing Messrs.

The men and companies associated with them became political donors only recently and have contributed just over $500,000 total in the past three years, according to FEC records.

Lawmakers had been ready to issue Mr Parnas and Mr Fruman with legal summonses to compel them to show up.
