Reducing the stigma of mental health

The Union Program Council partnered with Peer Advocates for Mental Wellness and Success, Counseling Services and Purple Power Animal Welfare Society to host four events throughout the week to create space for a mental health break and promote awareness.

With all the attention that mental health is finally garnering, it became imperative for the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) to work towards bringing mental illnesses within the scope of health insurance.

Murphy said that while there's historical fear and stigma, she believes openness and awareness about mental health is growing daily.

The study's survey showed that experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition was more common than not - 59% of respondents reported experiencing at least one symptom, with anxiety (37%), depression (32%), and eating disorders (26%) being the most common.

In addition, women who were moderate drinkers - defined as seven drinks or less per week - and who quit drinking during the study, benefited from a boost to their mental health, with levels of mental well-being close to those of lifetime abstainers within four years of quitting. Even Todd Phillips' much talked about film Joker delves deeper into this subject. "If you are facing any kind of mental health problem, it is my appeal to you to come forward and seek help", said Dr Bhooshan Shukla, child and adolescent psychiatrist. Mental health disorders and suicide cases in Pakistan are increasing day by day and one of the main reasons is lack of awareness.

Twitter used 2FA phone numbers for ad targeting
The admission indicates that Twitter deliberately took users' 2FA mobile phone numbers and repurposed them to help advertisers. It's the latest in a series of security lapses at Twitter in the past year.

The "Mental Health at Work: 2019 Report" also shows that mental health can affect productivity at work. Everyone - either directly or indirectly - is affected by a mental health issue. However, the good news is that people have started accepting their psychological health issues along with their physical health issues; the percentage of such people is very low at the moment, though.

Sataravala adds, "If you ever feel that you need a listening service which is confidential, anonymous, non-judgemental, and non-advisory, you can contact the Connecting helpline". That fear is clearly visible from their body language, asking again if their issues will be kept secret and not disclosed to anyone, including their families. "We need to change the way we talk about mental health".

One-third of the 1,500 survey-takers also said they thought that work contributed to their experience of symptoms of mental health conditions.

"We are therefore really excited to support Every Mind Matters, which encourages people to be more aware of their mental health and help them discover simple steps to look after their mental health and wellbeing".

PR firm Speed launched a new wellbeing programme to support its commitment to the pledge; this provides its employees with physical and mental wellbeing support, including mental health first aiders, training and regular activities.
