Jay Gruden fired by Redskins after 0-5 start to 6th season

Despite never before being a head coach in the National Football League, and despite never winning more than nine games in a season, Gruden managed to stick around longer than anyone else who's held that job for the Redskins during Snyder's unsuccessful two-decade stint as team owner.

Snyder and team president Bruce Allen informed Gruden he was sacked a day after a 33-7 loss to the New England Patriots.

"Through the first five games of the 2019 season, the team has clearly not performed up to expectations, and we all share in that responsibility", the team said in its release.

When asked during his postgame press conference on Sunday about his job status, Gruden answered: "If the key works Monday, I'll keep working". I don't have a concern. Gruden himself will look to locate employment elsewhere and should have a few options, but it won't be any easier for him to land a new gig than it will be for the Redskins to convince someone to take over his old one.

After some scrambling inside the salon, the deer eventually found its way out by crashing through the salon's glass front door. Salon owner Jenisse Heredia said she was cutting a client's hair when she heard "this wild crash" and thought it was a auto .

Gruden became the fifth coach fired by team owner Dan Snyder, following Norv Turner, Marty Schottenheimer, Jim Zorn and Mike Shanahan.

Under Gruden, the Redskins won at least seven games in four straight seasons for the first time since a four-year streak from 1999-2002. He had two winning seasons - 9-7 in 2015 and 8-7-1 in 2016.

Hired as the 29th bench boss in franchise history on January 9, 2014, Gruden went 35-49-and-1 (including playoffs) as Redskins head coach, including a 7-and-9 record in 2018 - a campaign during which his team lost six of its final seven games to endure back-to-back losing seasons.

Washington plays another winless team, the Miami Dolphins, in its next game on Sunday.
