Trump Speaks at News Conference With Australian PM

President Trump, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and guests will dine on Dover sole and summer squash as US military bands fill the air with music in the green- and gold-themed Rose Garden Friday night - only the second state dinner of the Trump White House.

Trump told reporters Friday at the White House that the USA did Europe a "tremendous favor" by leading the fight to force the Islamic State from the last of the territory it held in Syria. Temporary flooring has been laid over the grass in the famous garden.

The leaders met for talks on trade, space, China and Afghanistan.

Two tables are set during a media preview for the State Dinner with President Donald Trump and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison in the Rose Garden of the White House, Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, in Washington.

"Mrs Morrison has been a great supporter of Australian fashion, and I am most thrilled that she chose to wear my design at this stately event in addition to arriving in Washington in one of my signature jumpsuits", Ms Zampatti said.

Trump says tonight's Rose Garden state dinner "will be quite something".

The first lady released some key details, but is withholding the guest list and details about her gown until just before the festivities get under way. Trump announced that the US has issued new sanctions on Iran's central bank at the "highest level".

Struggling Adam Vinatieri misses two more extra points
Vinatieri missed the extra point, leaving the Colts with a 13-7 lead. "He's not only our kicker, he's a key leader on our team". When reminded Colts players do not typically meet with reporters on Mondays, Vinatieri reiterated he would speak Monday.

Trump spoke of the "unbreakable bond" between the two countries and honored the "100 years of mateship" that was celebrated last year to mark 100 years since troops from the United States and Australia fought alongside each other in World War I.

The US president said it would be too expensive to hold all the jihadists in Guantanamo Bay, the American detention base in Cuba.

A senior Trump administration official describes Australia as "an absolutely essential partner" in Trump's "free and open Indo-Pacific vision".

"There are many larger, I suppose, more powerful friends that America has, but they know that they do not have a more sure and steadfast friend than Australia", he said.

Trump and Morrison will spend part of Sunday together when they tour a new, Australian-owned manufacturing facility in Ohio.

Lachlan Murdoch, executive chairman and CEO of FOX Corp., will also attend.

On Friday night, Trump will honour the Morrisons at a state dinner, just the second he has hosted for a foreign leader.
