Tom Welling's Superman to Return for Arrowverse Crossover

And comes word that Smallville's very own Clark Kent, Tom Welling, will be joining in on the event.

Tom Welling, whose career was launched by his ten-season portrayal of a young Kal-El/Clark Kent on Smallville, will reprise the role on The CW's upcoming multi-series crossover known as Crisis On Infinite Earths.

The number of Supermen heading to the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover now stands at three.

As Arrow co-creator/executive producer Marc Guggenheim hinted in the Welling casting announcement, the crossover will be paying homage to Smallville.

TEAM WORLD: John Isner (20), Milos Raonic (24), Nick Kyrgios (27), Taylor Fritz (30), Denis Shapovalov (33), Jack Sock (210). On September 20, later today, Team Europe will lock horns with Team World in the annual friendly tennis tournament.

We will even reportedly find out what Clark Kent has been up to in the years preceding the events of Smallville.

'To say that we're thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement'. Tom Welling, who played Superman for 10 seasons on Smallville, will once again don the red cape for Crisis on Infinite Earths, TV Guide has learned. Tyler Hoechlin will return as the Arrow-verse's Superman, while Legends of Tomorrow's Brandon Routh - who played the Big Blue Boyscout in Superman Returns - will appear as Superman in a costume inspired by Alex Ross' Kingdom Come design.

If you've been paying attention to news surrounding the upcoming "Crisis on Infinite Earths", you know that the DC CW crossover event isn't pulling any punches with its lineup of guest stars, from Black Lightning characters being brought into the fray to longtime Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy playing a live-action version of an older Bruce Wayne. The series followed Clark Kent's journey from small-town high school hero to a superhero living in Metropolis. After a month-long holiday break, it concludes with the January 14 episode of Arrow followed by a special installment of Legends of Tomorrow (which premieres at midseason).
