Liberal candidate for Waterloo accepts Trudeau's apology, calling it 'genuine'

The onslaught of criticism, however, has led to more shocking discoveries: images of the Liberal leader wearing racist makeup at two additional events from his youth. "I didn't really learn anything new about Trudeau, but it's really showing me what kind of person Jagmeet is. and my respect for him is growing". The dinner had an "Arabian Nights" theme and Trudeau has confirmed he was dressed as Aladdin.

Trudeau has also admitted to wearing blackface in a high school performance where he sang Harry Belafonte's Banana Boat Song (Day O).

Still, Trudeau was relentlessly apologetic.

He went on to say Trudeau didn't need the blackface to make the costume work at the event. "I'm pissed off at myself".

But if close polling patterns hold, any shift caused by the photos of Trudeau wearing blackface and brownface could be amplified.

"He acknowledged that it was wrong and racist then, and it would be wrong and racist today", she says.

"What Canadians saw this evening is someone with a complete lack of judgement and integrity and someone who is not fit to govern this country".

"An apology based on a lie is not a real apology", Scheer told the public during an announcement in Quebec. "Star Wars" jokes when we just lost one of the key towns of Alberta?" commented one irate Twitter user. But he did admit that "an individual" approached his campaign with a video that was sent to a news outlet for verification.

In another incident, Trudeau's minister for women and gender equality, Maryam Monsef, released a video from 2013 featuring a Conservative candidate, a female entrepreneur, pitching an idea for a TV show with another woman who has since become one of Canada's most well-known hard-right personalities. With tears in his eyes, Singh said he is commenting to send a message to people in Canada, particularly young people, to not give up on Canada.

The rupee too appreciated 66 paise to 70.68 against USA dollar following the finance minister's announcements. Firms that do receive incentives or exemptions will see their tax rate cut to 25% from 35%.

Jacques Sigouin, campaign manager for William Morales, who is running in the riding of Drummond, said the photos were "an anodyne situation".

"We are going to come together and take care of one another".

"What I did hurt them - hurt people who shouldn't face intolerance and discrimination due to their skin colour", he said.

"[Jagmeet Singh] responded with a lot of class and dignity", Scheer said.

"Those are pretty seriously racist things to do and I think without an understanding or a willingness to tackle the institutions that maintain racism, he's just doing the same thing that everyone else is doing", she said.

"I deeply regret that I did that".

Green Party leader Elizabeth May took to social media to make a statement about the photo saying she is "deeply shocked" by the "racism".

Even though no other candidate would be allowed to get away with it, even though the Liberals would repeatedly demand that Andrew Scheer resign if it had been him in the photos, and even though countless numbers of regular Canadians have lost their careers for far less, the Liberals have decided that Justin Trudeau gets a free pass.

"I have made a number of calls to friends and colleagues tonight, and I will have many more calls tonight", Trudeau said. "That doesn't mean black and minority people will forgive him, but it simply means that they have always had that deep skepticism of issues of reconciliation and diversity and the government's commitment to it". But, she believes the conversations taking place in classrooms, workplaces and coffee shops as a result are important.
