Huawei says Watch GT 2 has two weeks of battery life

Following the original Huawei Watch GT which launched in October previous year alongside the Mate 20 series, Huawei has updated its newest wearable line with the Huawei Watch GT 2 which launched alongside the Huawei Mate 30 Pro overnight.

The new smartwatch from the brand builds on the original Watch GT. Huawei has opted for a more premium design here, and expanded functionality, but has stuck with the key elements of long-lasting battery life and an affordable price compared to many rival smartwatches. There's a 42mm variant with a 1.2-inch AMOLED display (390 x 390 resolution) and a 46mm variant with a 1.39-inch AMOLED display (454 x 454 resolution), with a 3D glass uni-piece crystal-bezel design and always-on mode. The new smartwatch is the successor to the original Watch GT and it comes with Huawei's very own LiteOS.

There'll be a good number of variants of Huawei Watch GT 2, and all of them will be coming to Australia - in both mens' and womens' styles, there'll be both 46mm and 42mm variants, in a sports or classic edition (with a rubberised band) and elite edition (with a metal band).

The smaller 42mm variant of the Watch GT 2 has been priced starting at 229 euros (around Rs 18,000) whereas the 46mm variant will retail at a starting price of 249 euros (around Rs 19,500) in European countries. It has Global Positioning System onboard, and there's a heart rate monitor, which we found to be accurate in our testing time. The heart rate tracker will also work in water, which is a first for a Huawei watch. The larger watch features a 22mm strap whereas the smaller watch features a 20mm strap. You may not believe it but the Huawei Watch GR 2 brings along 2GB onboard storage, giving you the option to store about 500 songs on the watch. The 46mm version of the watch also has a speaker.

Over on the fitness front, there are now 15 sports modes with full-scale monitoring of 190 date types, and for general health and well-being, a heart rate and sleep monitoring, in addition to a steps counter and sedentary alert which tells you when it get off your arse and get moving. The watch also includes features like compass, torch, workout records, and barometer.

We've yet to test out the battery life on the Huawei Watch GT 2, but the last device from the company performed extremely well in this respect, and we'd expect it to be a similar story here.

Huawei says that with typical usage, the 46mm series is capable of running for 14 days in a single charge.

The highlight feature of both devices is battery life.
