Colts hope to talk Vinatieri out of retiring

The game start time was unaffected by the fire, with kickoff being held as scheduled.

It's been more than 20 years since the Colts have had to worry about their kickers.

He broke Morten Andersen's career scoring and field goal records last season. Reich referred to Vinatieri, who has been battling a knee injury since the middle of training camp, as an "instrumental leader" on the team.

"Breaks my heart to see it because I know how hard [Vinatieri] works", Colts owner Jim Irsay said outside the locker room after the game, according to ESPN.

"Yeah, it's a concern", Irsay told The Indianapolis Star.

"Honestly, I wanted to see what he's made of", Colts tight end Eric Ebron said of his buddy, Brissett, when Indy got the ball back for that go-ahead drive. "He's always said, 'As long as I continue being an asset for the team, I'll continue doing it.' Right now, I think Vinatieri has the feeling he is letting his teammates down, and he doesn't like it".
