House Democrats launch investigation into Pence's stay at Trump hotel in Ireland

The Democrat-controlled House Judiciary Committee is set to vote next week on a resolution laying out the procedures that it will use for its investigation as they are reportedly considering moving to impeach President Donald Trump.

The Judiciary panel and the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee announced Friday that they are demanding information about the spending of taxpayer money at the president's hotels and properties, partly to inform the impeachment investigation.

President Donald Trump has once again made off to his golf course in Virginia this weekend, and that means he hit a notable milestone: he's reportedly spent 30% of his presidency at resorts he owns.

The Chairman of the Committee says they do not believe U.S. taxpayer funds should be used to personally enrich President Trump, his family, and his companies.

Casting their Trump nets beyond the special counsel's Russian Federation report, House Democrats are demanding information about the spending of taxpayer money at the president's hotels and properties.

The State Department allowed seven foreign governments to rent luxury condos in Trump Tower in NY in 2017 without receiving consent from lawmakers, Reuters reported earlier this year.

Mugabe's body leaves Singapore hotel en route to 'hero's' grave
A plane carrying the former leader and the visiting delegation departed shortly afterwards, his nephew Adam Molai told AFP . Mugabe died on Friday aged 95 in Singapore, where he had long received medical treatment.

Pelosi echoed the Democratic investigators, calling Trump's properties "a cesspool of corruption" and a "black hole for taxpayers' money". "We must get America focused on the ongoing violations against basic constitutional principles".

"Potential violations of the foreign and domestic emoluments clauses of the Constitution are of significant interest and grave concern to the committee as it considers whether to recommend articles of impeachment", Mr. Nadler said in his letter, underlining the broader stakes. You know, I think it's important for us to think about what is in the best interest of the country and the American people, and continuing to pursue impeachment is something that I think will only further to tear our country apart.

A more formal investigation could strengthen separate committee lawsuits seeking federal court orders to access Mueller grand jury material and compel testimony from witnesses like former White House Counsel Don McGahn. More subpoenas are likely. The Judiciary Committee has a busy investigative agenda this fall and a panel full of lawmakers who feel leadership has been dragging their feet on holding Trump accountable.

House Intelligence committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., has long said that Congress should focus on following Trump's finances- a subject that Mueller stayed away from.

"These other issues are also very powerful", he said. Letters requesting documents were also sent to the Secret Service, the vice president's office and the Trump Organization.

House Democrats gave the White House until September 19 to respond.
