Brewers Score 5 Runs In 4th Inning Against Lester, Cubs Lose

It wasn't his feet that won the game for the Brew Crew though.

Tyler Austin broke a 3-all tie with a three-run homer in the fourth.

Milwaukee is two games out of the second NL wild card spot and six-and-a-half back in the NL Central.

Houser's lone start versus Chicago after three relief appearances was one to forget as he was tagged for four runs and nine hits - including solo homers by Jason Heyward and Kyle Schwarber - in five innings of a 7-2 loss at Wrigley Field on August 4.

Chicago's Jason Heyward launched a two-run homer off Jimmy Nelson in the ninth inning, but Josh Hader struck out both batters he faced to secure his 29th save of the season. Braun's double plated Christian Yelich to trim the Cubs' lead to 3-2. Eric Thames added a solo shot off Lester in the sixth, and pinch-hitter Tyrone Taylor added an RBI single off Duane Underwood Jr. for his first major league hit. Gio Gonzales also went five innings, allowing one earned run on two hits with three K's.

Cubs shortstop Javy Baez's MRB revealed a hairline fracture on his left thumb that he suffered last Sunday against the Brewers.

Addison Russell will fill in for Baez.

England, defensively, were not good enough - nowhere near the standard that would be acceptable at the highest global level. Gareth Southgate's side went a goal behind after a mistake from Michael Keane before scoring five before the interval.

Jon Lester gave up all eight runs over five-and-a-third innings to take the loss for Chicago.

Danny Hultzen, in his long-awaited major league debut, hit Yelich in the left hand with a 94 miles per hour slider that deflected and hit plate umpire Will Little just above his right knee.

"Javy is the heart of this team", said catcher Willson Contreras.

Hultzen was the second overall pick by Seattle in the 2011 draft but was beset by injuries in the minors. He's had an up-and-down year after missing the first 28 games of the season while completing a suspension for violating the league's domestic abuse policy.

Cubs: 3B Kris Bryant got the game off.

Cubs: RHP Kyle Hendricks (9-9, 3.39 ERA) makes his 27th start of the season and 15th on the road Monday night against RHP Cal Quantrill (6-6, 3.45 ERA) and the San Diego Padres. Darvish has been the Cubs' steadiest starter of late, and with other pitchers enduring their ups and downs, Darvish will hold a key to the Cubs' postseason chances. They'll go for the win Sunday afternoon at 1:10, with pregame coverage beginning at 12:35 on WSAU.
