Australia wildfires seriously injure firefighter, raze homes

"[We've] never seen this before in recorded history - fire weather has never been as severe, this early in Spring", Inspector Sturgess said.

Fire and Emergency crew battle bushfire near a house in the rural town of Canungra in the Scenic Rim region of South East Queensland, Australia, on September 6, 2019.

Winds along the coast and inland are expected to ease from Tuesday but authorities have warned against complacency.

Officials have declared 47 homes across the state are either damaged or completely destroyed, including the historic Binna Burra Lodge in the Gold Coast hinterland.

It's not safe for some people to go home but one man who has says the landscape now looks otherworldly.

The two other fires of concern are a huge blaze near the border towns of Applethorpe and Stanthorpe, and a bushfire in hard terrain near Binna Burra in the Scenic Rim. "The fire is expected to have a major affect on the neighborhood", QFES said.

At Linville, residents were told to leave if they didn't have a plan because the fire would probably hit George Street, John Street, David Street, Anne Street, William Street and Alice Street, Linville before 5 p.m.

Stanthorpe woman Samantha Wantling says the tension in the town is palpable, despite the news that fire crews have contained the blaze near the town.

On Monday the fire was burning on both sides of Binna Burra Rd, south of Summerville Rd, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said.

There were 83 fires burning in the state on Monday afternoon with hundreds of fire fighters were battling huge blazes that have gutted at least 20 homes since Thursday.

A rare full Harvest Moon expected for this coming Friday the 13th
While most moons rise approximately 50 minutes after sunset, the harvest moon can appear as soon as 10 minutes after the sun sets. The United States hasn't had a Friday the 13th full moon since October 13, 2000 - and the next won't occur until August 13, 2049.

Whereas Performing Queensland Premier, Jackie Trad, stated the extreme situations could possibly be attributed to local weather change.

"We need rain. That's the only thing that's going to save us".

Meanwhile Queensland police have warned anyone caught deliberately lighting fires face life imprisonment after some children lit a blaze at Pimpama on the Gold Coast on Sunday.

Police have declared a bushfire emergency situation, and homes have reportedly been lost on the Sunshine Coast of Australia.

Armidale is already experiencing early-morning winds of up to 40km/h and gusts of up to 60km/h, pushing the Bees Nest blaze towards the northeast.

Crews were also called to small fires that broke out at Tinbeerwah and Curramore overnight.

"And that is further compounded by the challenge of what we said yesterday that the road is significantly compounded with trees coming down as well as the wind coming up being a continued corridor of risk, even for firefighters who believe it is unsafe to even get in without the risk of getting trapped".

No deaths have been reported, but a 66-year-old volunteer firefighter remains in a critical condition in hospital after sustaining serious burns on Friday.
