Pakistan saddened to learn about demise of Zimbabwe's Mugabe

A press release issued by the Office of the former President stated that Mr Mugabe who died on Friday, September 6 was a pioneering leader of his people, self-willed, and one with a high level of intellect.

The government is expected to announce when Mugabe's body will be returned to Zimbabwe and provide details of the funeral in coming days.

Presidential spokesman George Charamba told AFP by text message that his body should arrive in Zimbabwe on Wednesday, with an official funeral on Saturday and the burial the following day.

Icecream seller Tendai Marange who has three children to feed, said she would mourn Mugabe, but later.

But the Mugabe years are now widely remembered for his crushing of political dissent and policies that ruined the economy. "But that's a fight and he did it, and we should give him that".

"He was bitter. You can imagine, the people that you trusted, the people who were guarding you, the people that were looking after your security are the same people that turn against you", he told reporters outside Mugabe's homestead in Kutama village, 85 km (52.8 miles) from the capital Harare along the Robert Mugabe Highway.

But his ousting in 2017 was accompanied by celebrations across the country of 13mn, and critics at home and overseas viewed him as a power-obsessed autocrat who unleashed death squads, rigged elections and ruined the economy to keep control.

Those who remained close to Mugabe since the coup claim that it was this betrayal that provided the catalyst for what might be a premature end to a life, which as in the case of his mother who died at the age of 103, could have run well past a century. Heroes, for what? That is for Mnangagwa not for Mugabe.

"He was a disappointed man; he was frustrated, he was angry, but at some time I think he was able to express his faith", Muguti added.

He explained that his uncle would have been appointed chief of Zvimba had he not become president.

But on Saturday Zimbabwe's deputy information minister Energy Mutodi wrote on Twitter that the plan was still for Mugabe to be interred at the monument.

DG Moyo said Cde Mugabe and his family enjoyed cordial relations with the State and had planned to meet President Mnangagwa.

To quote my tweet on the occasion of his 95th birthday on 21st February, 2019: "Belated birthday wishes to Comrade Robert Gabriel Mugabe, with fondest memories of the good old days of hope for our country, the heady days of detention, struggle and the first decade during which we established the post Independent State in Zimbabwe".
