Hurricane Dorian slowly moving along Florida coastline

The ground crunched under Greg Alem's feet on Wednesday as he walked over the ruins of his home, laid waste by Hurricane Dorian.

"We planted those trees ourselves. We know if you're stuck in an attic". "He's lost everything, but his faith kept him strong".

The storm is expected to produce 5 to 10 inches of rain in the Coastal Carolinas, 3 to 6 inches along the Atlantic Coast from Daytona Beach, Florida to the Georgia-South Carolina line and 3 to 6 inches in southeast Virginia. A couple of walls were the only thing left. "When I say it, it's woo-woo".

Bahamas Prime Minister Hubert Minnis put the death toll at seven. The weather has made it impossible for relief agencies to get through, Minnis said.

"I want to see what it is like", said May, who moved from Arizona a few years ago.

He thanked the global community for its response, especially the US government for what he called their "exceptional assistance". The US Coast Guard said four of its helicopters were assisting in humanitarian efforts.

With telephones down on Abaco and Grand Bahama islands, residents posted lists of missing loved ones across social media. "Apocalyptic. It looks like a bomb went off", she said. "The Lord saved me".

Other recently evacuated Bahamians said they had endured days without food and, in one case, had witnessed a neighbour die in front of them from cardiac arrest.

United Nations officials said more than 60,000 people on the hard-hit islands of Bahamas will need food, and the Red Cross said some 62,000 will need clean drinking water.

"The dog laid on top of her to keep her warm until the neighbors could come to help", she said.

Trump accused of using Sharpie-doctored Dorian Alabama map
But a similar image released by the White House last week did not include any impact on Alabama in its forecast. The far western extent of the cone was located more than 240km east of the Alabama border.

Using data from forecasters and the current track of Dorian, experts try to create a composite picture of how the ocean will respond, and they even take it one step further.

Red Cross spokesman Matthew Cochrane stated that more than 13,000 houses and 45 percent of the homes in the Bahamas have been "severely damaged or destroyed".

The storm's maximum sustained winds Wednesday remain near 105 miles per hour (165 kph), making it a Category 2 hurricane. More than 2.2 million people in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and SC have been ordered to evacuate.

"We are hoping and praying that the loss of life is limited", he said.

"We are ready to go", Gaynor said.

With the threat to Florida easing and the danger shifting northward, Orlando, Florida's global airport reopened, as did Walt Disney World and Universal.

The first storm-related death in North Carolina because of Hurricane Dorian was reported Wednesday.

Areas of the U.S., including Florida, were evacuated earlier this week ahead of the storm's expected landfall. "Thank you guys so much or helping the Bahamas get back to a better place".

Water flooded part of the docks at 2 George's past the seating area and all the way up to the bar at high tide Tuesday before receding.

Hurricane Dorian's outer bands are reaching Florida's coast causing beaches to have crashing waves and choppy water.
