The UK could be heading for an early election

Johnson has planned to pull Britain out of the European Union, with or without an agreement with the EU, by October 31.

If it fails, Corbyn said Labour could back a vote of no-confidence in Johnson's government, which could lead to a general election.

"The whips are telling Conservative MPs today a very simple message - if they fail to vote with the government on Tuesday they will be destroying the government's negotiating position and handing control of parliament to [Labour leader] Jeremy Corbyn", a whips' office source told Sky News.

Professor Curtice said: "The real point about an early election is the dynamics will depend on a battle not so much between Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn but a battle between Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage".

Sensing the danger presented by the rebels' plan, Johnson dropped a strong hint on Monday night that a general election could be on the cards should lawmakers succeed in blocking a no-deal Brexit in Parliament this week.

"A deal that parliament will certainly be able to scrutinise".

"We are not daft enough to see a tactic dictated by PM Johnson which is created to land us with a no-deal Brexit and to fall for that", he said.

He told Sky News: 'I'm a proud Conservative, I support the Conservative party.

"Boris Johnson knows that if no-deal Brexit stands on its own as a proposition it might well fail, but if he mixes it up with the Corbyn question in a general election he could succeed despite a majority being against a no-deal Brexit because some may fear a Corbyn premiership more", Blair said. "I don't want an election, you don't want an election".

The rebels' proposed law states that if MPs have not approved an European Union deal or endorsed a "no deal" scenario by October 19 - the day after the European Union summit - then Johnson must seek a delay to Brexit.

A public vote was then held, with goals from Lionel Messi , Juan Fernando Quintero and Daniel Zsori making the final shortlist. Lionel Messi , Cristiano Ronaldo , and Virgil van Dijk have been named as the finalists for The Best FIFA Men's Player Award.

A total of 11 Remainer Tory MPs have confirmed they will vote to block No Deal including former justice secretary David Gauke, Rory Stewart, ex-education secretary Justine Greening, Sir Oliver Letwin and former attorney general Dominic Grieve.

The leader of the opposition Labour Party wants his lawmakers to vote for an October 14 election but with a "mechanism" attached to force an extension to Britain's Brexit date from Halloween, The Sun's political editor said on Tuesday. If the members of parliament do manage to block a no-deal Brexit at the end of next month, then that is likely to push sterling up.

Is the United Kingdom heading for an early general election?

Hence, the rebel MPs are seeking to pass a legislation to force Johnson to ask for further delay to Brexit.

The febrile atmosphere came after Johnson got tough with members of his Conservative Party who opposed his Brexit plans.

Opinion polls suggest Johnson's decisive action on Brexit is popular with voters, but an election - particularly before Brexit is delivered - could be a huge risk.

A no-deal Brexit is considered risky because it will sever decades of seamless trade with the single market of 500 million, but Johnson insists the potential for leaving without a deal must remain as a bargaining chip in negotiations with the EU.

He urged MPs to vote against the bill and said: "We want a deal, we don't want an election". In his Downing Street statement, Johnson said he believed lawmakers would not vote for the bill to prevent a no-deal exit.

In this case, that means getting the support of the Labour Party.

After winning the top job in the chaos that followed the 2016 European Union membership referendum, then Prime Minister Theresa May bet on a 2017 snap election but lost her majority.
