Indianapolis Colts sign ex-Patriot QB Brian Hoyer

Brissett was named the starter following Andrew Luck's retirement last week.

The magnitude of the contract is a clear indication the Colts view Hoyer as at least their backup for 2019.

Veteran NFL quarterback Brian Hoyer has reportedly found a new home, signing a sizable new contract ahead of the 2019 regular season.

Terms were not disclosed, but a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that it's a three-year, $12 million deal that includes $9 million guaranteed.

Indianapolis left Brissett as the lone quarterback on the roster following final roster cuts.

He was most recently Brady's backup, a role Jacoby Brissett filled in 2016 as a rookie before getting traded.

"I can't speak highly enough about Brian". "Especially when I first got here and got going in OTAs and minicamp and all that kind of stuff, he was here every day for me and helping me in every way that he could". But on a conference call Sunday, Belichick left the door open that Hoyer could return to New England.

Hoyer, who was on his second stint with the Patriots prior to his release over the weekend, has thrown for 48 touchdowns and 9,902 yards in 64 career games since 2009, and has a 16-21 career record as a starter. His odyssey has included two trips through New England and swings through Arizona, Cleveland, Houston, Chicago and San Francisco.
