'18 champ Osaka loses to Bencic at US Open; Nadal into QFs

That was as good as it would get for Cilic, however, the momentum shifting decisively in Nadal's favour when he jumped in the air to hit a spectacular overhead smash that electrified the crowd.

The match, which lasted for two hours and 49 minutes, saw Nadal smash 38 winners to making just 26 unforced errors besides winning 12 of the final 15 games.

'You never know what's better or worse, all that matters to me is I'm in the fourth round. Having made her Grand Slam debut at the US Open in 2008, the American finally recorded her first main draw victory at a major this week - the largest gap between Grand Slam main draw debut and first Grand Slam main draw match win in Open Era history. But I need to be focused with my serve, as always.

Rafael Nadal moved ominously into the last 16 at the US Open with a straight-sets win over Chung Hyeon.

"I am pleased to be in the fourth round for yet another time".

"I have been through a great deal with injuries and have taken everything I have learned from the last few years and introduced it into this season".

Nadal had been on court for just over two hours prior to his third round match.

We need to continue working to develop the balance defensively in that moment. The game was fantastic for football but, for us, it's not enough.

Entering Monday's fourth round, Diego Schwartzman had yet to drop a set at this year's U.S. Open in NY. I think she was even more skilled and smarter on the court and playing more chess.

Nadal then added: "I followed the ball good because he had a good volley and I saw it, I ran fast to that ball. My second serve needs to be worked on", Zverev said.

Cilic, the 2014 champion, hopes to improve to 6-0 in fourth-round matches at Flushing Meadows.

They both played on a high level in set number two and it was Cilic who delivered a whole package, serving well and breaking Rafa at 15 in the fourth game that sent him in front, sealing the set with an unreturned serve at 5-3 to level the overall score and stay in contention for an upset.

"It is true a year ago that I had some hard matches".

"Right now, I have this feeling of sadness", said Osaka, who lost in the third round at the French Open and first round at Wimbledon, "but I also feel like I have learned so much during this tournament".
