United States cyberattack hurt Iranian capability to target oil tankers in Persian Gulf

"We want to engage with them diplomatically", Esper said. "We hope that the Iranians would agree to meet and talk and help us resolve these issues".

"... Negotiation would be meaningful when it happens on an equal footing, otherwise, it can not be called negotiation; it would be domination, and our nation has not accepted domination for 40 years", the cleric went on to say.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Thursday the United States must observe the 2015 nuclear deal and stop engaging in "economic terrorism" against the Iranian people if Washington wants to meet for talks.

Trump a year ago unilaterally withdrew from an Obama-era global agreement that gave Iran sanctions relief in exchange for limits on its nuclear program.

An influential Iranian lawmaker has suggested that French President Emmanuel Macron should focus on fulfilling Europe's obligations under the nuclear deal with Iran rather than acting as a mediator between Tehran and Washington.

Last May, threat intelligence specialists warned that Iran was gearing up to launch a new wave of cyber attacks against Western government organisations and businesses.

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper also called Wednesday for Iran to enter discussions with the US to ease tensions in the Gulf region.

After the match, however, both Osaka and Gauff embraced at the net and even did the post-match interview together. She fired her coach soon after her victory in Melbourne, and then lost in the third round at the French Open.

Zarif slammed Washington's push for dominance in the region including through a USA -led coalition to patrol the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which much of the world's oil transits.

The cyberstrike was created to be debilitating - Iran is still trying to restore data - but proportionate and not so provocative as to result in escalation, officials said.

Tehran has denied accusations that it was behind attacks on six tankers in May and June. We are still sitting around the table with five other countries and the EU.

"The Israelis feared that a Zarif meeting could have made Trump more likely to agree to a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani - leading to a showy summit and a long, open-ended diplomatic process that would take the pressure off of the Iranian regime", reports Axios.

Zarif paid an unexpected visit to the Group of Seven summit in France at the weekend, holding talks on the sidelines of the meeting with French officials.
