China used iPhone hacks to target Uyghur Muslims

Morgan Stanley set a $247.00 target price on Apple and gave the company a "buy" rating in a report on Wednesday, July 31st. The sale was disclosed in a legal filing with the SEC, which is available through the SEC website. It is unclear whether the revelation of this hack will affect those plans.

The malware from the hacks could allow others to read all the database files on a victim's phone, including messages between users on such encrypted platforms as WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram and others.

And in an age where cryptocurrency and banking are done online, the potential for damage to any particular user it extreme.

"There was no target discrimination; simply visiting the hacked site was enough for the exploit server to attack your device, and install a monitoring implant", said Ian Beer, member of Project Zero. These websites were up for two years, during which thousands of visitors purportedly accessed them each week.

Days after an emergency security patch was rushed out for the latest iPhone operating system (iOS), Google's Project Zero has claimed that previous iOS versions were susceptible to major intrusions, in some cases letting hackers install "monitoring implants" on devices to steal sensitive information.

The violence started with a traffic stop, Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said during a news conference. In a missive published online, the suspect said he had driven to El Paso to target Hispanics.

"The hacked sites were being used as indiscriminate watering holes against their visitors", Beer said.

The researchers were able to collect five separate, complete and unique iPhone exploit chains, covering nearly every version from iOS 10 through to the latest version of iOS 12.

While Apple was quick to fix the vulnerabilities when it was alerted about them, we didn't learn last week who had actually carried out the attacks using these previously unknown vectors. Seven of the vulnerabilities were tied to the iPhone's web browser, five were related to the kernel, and two were associated with separate sandbox escapes, according to researchers.

The Project Zero team informed Apple about the hack on 1st February 2019 with a 7-day deadline. As it was expected, it will take place on September 10 at the Steve Jobs Theater, at Apple Park office in Cupertino, California.

Beer described the research undertaken by Project Zero as "a huge effort to pull apart and document nearly every byte of a multi-year in-the-wild exploitation campaign". Three new iPhones are expected to be debuted.
