Google Maps now lets users plan mixed modes of travel

Today, they've made it easier to complete complex navigation requests for those who might need to combine transit with biking or ridesharing.

In the coming weeks, Google Maps is going to begin pairing transit directions with biking and ridesharing suggestions to make sure you reach your destination with as little walking as possible.

The traditional Google Maps journey involves selecting your destination, selecting your transport mode (walking, driving, public transport etc) and hitting go. In June, Google Maps added a feature that used past data to predict how crowded trains and buses would be for commuters. Put simply, Google Maps will automatically suggest alternate secondary transit options to get you to a primary method of transportation. Google Maps also shows public transportation details in various cities across the globe. These features will come in handy in situations where you have to combine public transport with a ride-sharing feature.

Google Maps can help you with the last mile of your daily commute

"Say you're taking the subway home from a friend's house, but your apartment is a bit too far from the station to get to on foot", Google Maps Product Manager Vishal Dutta posited in a blog announcement. You will now be able to see cycling and ride-sharing options.

In the case of ridesharing services, Maps will also display a variety of information related to each part of your trip, including how much each leg will cost, if there's traffic on the way and how long you'll have to wait for a vehicle, bus or train. You can also choose your favorite rideshare provider and other available ride options like pool or economy. You will also get an option to choose the ride type. Google Maps will let you know the total cost of your trip.

Live View is rolling out on Android and iOS devices now, following testing on Google's own Pixel phones over the past few months. Of course, this option only make sense for cyclists or countries were bicycle rentals are available.
