Epstein accuser urges Duke of York to ‘come clean’

Berman said he would give prosecutors, Epstein's lawyers and alleged victims a chance to speak.

"I deplore the exploitation of any human being and would not condone, participate in, or encourage any such behavior", Andrew said in a statement released Saturday.

The question before the judge was whether to throw out the indictment because of the defendant's death, a usually pro forma step.

Up to 30 of Epstein's accusers spoke out about their alleged abuse on Tuesday, before a judge who will decide whether the indictment against Epstein will be dropped.

Those thousands of pages of documents, released just a day before Epstein's death, contained claims that he and Maxwell recruited and used teenage girls for sex, often forcing them to have sex with other prominent men connected with Epstein.

Repeatedly, the women described themselves as survivors and said they hoped coming forward would help others.

The emotional two-and-a-half-hour testimony Tuesday came weeks after the 66-year-old financier killed himself in a NY jail cell while awaiting his sex trafficking trial.

Ms Ransome implored prosecutors to hold Epstein's co-conspirators responsible, telling them, "Please, please finish what you started".

During the 2½-hour proceeding, the women sometimes clutched one another to lend support. His suicide left some of them angry, others sad.

The newspaper noted the federal jail has been under intense scrutiny as a result of Epstein's death.

He said that he first met Epstein in 1999, saw him once or twice a year and stayed in a number of his properties.

"The defense team fully intends to conduct its own independent and complete investigation into the circumstances and cause of Mr. Epstein's death including if necessary legal action to view the pivotal videos - if they exist as they should - of the area proximate to Mr. Epstein's cell during the time period leading to his death", they told CNBC.

After the hearing, Berman said "everyone has benefited greatly" from hearing from the women. She said she thought Epstein was the most powerful person in the world. "Every public humiliation that I endured, I have suffered and he has won".

A coroner ruled Epstein, 66, died by suicide on August 10 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking and conspiracy charges involving underage girls.

One of Jeffrey Epstein's lawyers told a judge that an expert hired by the family says injuries to his neck were more consistent with homicide than suicide.

"It is a rather stunning turn of events", Berman said.

The hearing will nearly certainly end with the sex-trafficking charges against Epstein being dropped.

The judge said accusers have been included in the hearing "because of their relevant experiences".

"We deeply want to know what happened to our client", he said.

About 15 plaintiffs were given an opportunity to speak at the New York City court hearing that brings an end to the criminal case - which is now closed because of Epstein's death.

Billionaire Jeffrey Epstein faced several sex charges. He also removed the jail warden and the acting director of the Bureau of Prisons and placed two guards who were supposed to be watching Epstein the morning he died on leave.

At the time of his death, Epstein was preparing though his lawyers to argue in court papers due in September that he could not be prosecuted because he signed a no-prosecution deal with prosecutors a dozen years ago in Florida.

Buckingham Palace rejected the claim, issuing a statement which said, "It is emphatically denied that the Duke of York [Andrew] had any form of sexual contact or relationship" with the woman.

Multiple women appeared in a NY courtroom Tuesday asking prosecutors to go after those who enabled Epstein's crimes.
