Chandrayaan-2 Captures Craters On Moon: ISRO Shares Images

Chandrayaan-2 Captures Craters On Moon: ISRO Shares Images

By September 1, it will be in a near-circular orbit around the Moon, said reports. Notably, ISRO shared the first set of Moon's images captured by the spacecraft a day before (August 22).

The crater is named after Dr. Arnold Sommerfeld, a pioneering German physicist in the field of atomic and quantum physics.

India's second lunar expedition - would shed light on a completely unexplored section of the Moon, its South Polar region. The spacecraft, which carries 13 payloads and has three elements (an orbiter, a lander, and a rover), entered lunar orbit on August 20, approximately 28 days after it left the Earth's surface.

The third lunar bound orbit manoeuvre for Chandrayaan-2 was completed successfully at around 9 AM and the next such orbit manoeuvre is scheduled for August 30. For instance, the carter Mitra derives its name from Prof Sisir Kumar Mitra who was a known Indian scientist awarded with Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Radiophysics and ionosphere. The maneuver's duration was a little over 1738 seconds, stated the agency.

ISRO gets a close shot at the moon

The orbiter will revolve around the Moon for around a year, studying the satellite's outer atmosphere. If India succeeds in this mission, it will become the fourth nation to set foot on the lunar surface after the US, USSR (now Russia), and China.

ISRO also noted that "another well-formed impact crater", the Kirkwood crater, "named after American astronomer Daniel Kirkwood,", which is 68 km in diameter is nearby northeast to the Sommerfield crater.

With this feat, India becomes the 4 nation after China, USA, and Russian Federation to successfully place a lunar spacecraft on Moon's surface. If everything goes as per plan, this Indian spacecraft will perform a landing on the Moon's South Pole by Sept 7. ISRO is planning to have a separate space station which is going to be different from the International Space Station, the announcement was made by K Sivan in a press conference on June 13.

The particular interest of the Moon's South Pole region is that because this part of the surface mostly remains in shadow there is further potential for the presence and discovery of water.

KFC Testing Beyond Fried Chicken
Interestingly, KFC said it sold as much of the meat-free chicken it did in those 5 hours than it sells popcorn chicken in a week. Chicken producer Perdue Farms is also making nuggets, tenders and patties from a blend of chicken and vegetables.
