Iran unveils home-grown missile defence system AFP, Tehran

Handout picture shows President Hassan Rouhani (2nd-L) and Defence Minister Amir Hatami (2nd-R) at the announcement ceremony of the new Iranian-made long-range road-mobile surface-to-air missile defence system "Bavar (Believe) 373" in the capital Tehran on August 22, 2019.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday hailed Iran's growing strength against the USA pressures, official IRNA news agency reported.

Iran's president said that talks with the United States on the country's nuclear deal are useless.

"Today, no one doubts it (the United States failure in face of Iran) and even some of our neighbors, who had pinned their hope on the U.S. admit that in the day of danger, the first one who escapes our region is the Americans themselves", he added.

Bavar-373 is a mobile missile defense system created to intercept and destroy incoming hostile targets.

The system's unveiling came on Iran's National Defence Industry Day.

The long-range air defense system is capable of detecting up to 100 targets, tracking 60 of them, and engage with six concurrently, according to Mehr news agency.

He added that Iran needed the system for its own defence, sarcastically pointing out that "when the enemy launches a missile against us, we can not give a speech" asking him to "self-destroy the missile in the air".

President Hassan Rouhani described the system as an improvement to the Russian S-300 system, which Moscow delivered to Iran in 2016.

The defense system has two search and intercept radars, which can resist electronic warfare and electromagnetic bombs, the report said.

He added: "When the enemy launches a missile against us, we can not give a speech and say: 'Mr".

Noting that Iran manufactures its required weapons and equipment domestically with low production costs, he announced that some 770 various types of defense products are manufactured in Iran while the country is under the toughest sanctions.

"The Iran sanctions have officially been cast". "If there were no sanctions, Iran would not return to its indigenous capabilities and not achieve its economic or political independence".
