Trump Says Would Be 'Appropriate' for Russia to Rejoin G-7

US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan may be appointed as the next US ambassador to Russia, US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday at the meeting with Romania's President Kalus Iohannis.

At the same time, he doesn't have much experience in communicating with Russia, apart from recently meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov to discuss arms control in light of the U.S. withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

Trump said he would support if another group member would propose to restore Russia's membership, suspended in 2014 after his predecessor Barack Obama blamed Moscow for the crisis in Ukraine.

Trump added, "I could certainly see it being the G8 again".

"I guess President Obama because Putin outsmarted him".

P Chidambaram: India's former finance minister arrested
Chidambaram, who was home minister in the UPA government, spent the night after his arrest at the CBI headquarters on Lodhi Road. The CBI and ED filed caveats in the Supreme Court over Chidambaram's plea seeking protection from arrest in the INX media case .

Russian Federation was pushed out of the G8 in 2014 because of its annexation of Crimea from Ukraine. "In June 2015, the G8 summit was to be held in Sochi, but the Americans refused to attend it, other countries did the same, so the president only confirmed his invitation to the G7 to come to Russian Federation and discuss all the problems in the full G8 format", he said.

He did previously so at the G7's June summit, but the comments received quick pushback from Canada and Germany who oppose Russia's return while it continues to hold Crimea.

"It included Russia. And President Obama didn't want Russia in because he got outsmarted".

His remarks came after The New York Times reported that Trump was expected to name Sullivan to the diplomatic post, coming at a sensitive time in U.S. -Russia relations. The statement was made shortly before the approaching G7 Summit in Biarritz, France.
