USA buying Greenland 'absurd discussion,' Danish prime minister says

President Donald Trump says the idea of buying Greenland from Denmark came up in conversations within his administration and that it's essentially "a large real estate deal".

Mr Trump said the idea of buying Greenland from Denmark has been discussed within his administration because of the strategic benefits for the US.

Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen on Sunday dismissed the notion Denmark could consider selling Greenland.

Greenland's ministry of foreign affairs insisted Friday the resource-rich island was ready to talk business, but was not for sale.

For the USA, this would not be the first procurement of a foreign land.

President Donald Trump on Sunday confirmed his intention of buying Greenland, as it seemed like a "strategically interesting" option.

Greenland offers geopolitical advantages as well, thanks to its positioning between the US and Russian Federation and in the Arctic, where China has set its sights. "I strongly hope that this is not meant seriously".

After the last of the three, another California blaze in May 2018, Walmart asked Tesla to disconnect all rooftop solar systems. The lawsuit claims Tesla never provided Walmart with an explanation for the "root cause" of the fires.

"Trump sought to tie the idea of a USA purchase of the world's largest island - not including the continent of Australia - to his own area of professional expertise, saying it would be "essentially a large real estate deal". "Greenland belongs to Greenland", Frederiksen said, according to Sermitsiaq newspaper.

The US media had first revealed on August 15 that Trump had asked his advisers at the White House to find out if it was possible to buy Greenland from Denmark.

"Essentially, it's a large real estate deal", he said. A lot of things can be done. Strategically, it's interesting, and we'd be interested.' But we'll talk to them a little bit.

Greenland sits right in the center between major cities in the US and Russian Federation. "Kim Kielsen has of course made it clear that Greenland is not for sale". He adds that United States authorities furthermore worry about Chinese plans to invest in mines and transport projects in Greenland, in an effort to increase their influence in the Arctic.

Trump's idea of buying the world's largest island caused widespread worldwide hilarity, but at the same time provoked criticism in Denmark and Greenland. However, the spokesman mentioned that the country was open to forging partnerships and good cooperation with the United States. "It's developing. We're looking at it, we don't know", Kudlow said.

Any effort to buy the land today, however, is nearly certain to go nowhere, and foreign policy expert Luke Coffey of the conservative Heritage Foundation said there's no reason to make an offer when the already carrying $22 trillion in debt.
