Israeli military fires on militants at Gaza border, Palestinians say 3 killed

The Israeli military released security video footage it said showed the gunmen trying to cross the border.

The rocket attacks were launched just days after two separate incidents in which armed Palestinian terrorists attempted to infiltrate Israeli territory by breaching the security barrier between Gaza and Israel.

A helicopter and a tank fired at the "armed suspects" overnight, according to the Israeli military.

On Saturday night, an IDF spokesperson issued a statement regarding a rocket alert sounded in Israel's south, announcing that "three rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel".

But he said the surge of attacks by independent actors in recent weeks has sparked concern among Hamas leaders that their actions and Israeli reactions might push everyone towards a new large-scale confrontation. The army said two of the projectiles had been intercepted by its Iron Dome aerial defence system but it did not specify what happened to the third rocket.

With regard to that attack, the Iron Dome system intercepted one of the rockets, and no casualties were reported.

The strikes hit a Hamas observation post in Beit Hanoun, in the northern Gaza Strip, an unidentified target near Gaza City and open ground near Deir El Balah in the central part of the territory, the source said.
