Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile in Hennepin and Ramsey counties

At the same time, the MMCD reports the state health department reported its first human case of the virus this year as well.

West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes collected in Davis County, officials said.

Another positive case of West Nile Virus was found in South Central PA. It reported 176 human cases, including 17 deaths.

A press release from the MT DPHHS says that most people who become infected with WNV experience no symptoms, but about one in five people develop a mild illness, with symptoms including headache, body aches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea or a rash.

The City of Longmont has contracted with VDCI to implement an integrated pest management program to combat mosquitoes that might carry the West Nile Virus.

He said the suspects were detained within about an hour and officers are working "hard and diligently to find out what happened". Cops were photographed searching the inside of a gray BMW near the scene of the robbery Friday morning, according to the paper.


APPLY insect repellent. Use EPA-registered repellent such as those containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535 or oil of lemon eucalyptus/p-menthane-diol. When weather permits, wear long sleeves, long trousers, and socks outside.

Drain standing water around your house.

Residents are also encouraged to cover doors and windows with screens to keep mosquitoes out of homes. Mosquitoes remain active in much of Texas into November and December.

Removing stagnant water, such as water in unmaintained swimming pools, hot tubs, wading pools, water filled buckets, livestock water troughs, and flood-irrigated fields will reduce mosquito populations. Severe symptoms such as encephalitis, convulsions, and paralysis are rare and are most likely to occur in older adults or individuals with compromised immune systems.
