Honda unveils Acura Type S Concept ahead of Monterey debut

Honda unveils Acura Type S Concept ahead of Monterey debut

We're thinking the company wants to test the waters first, however.

At the front, the Type S Concept features large center and side intakes supplying airflow to the high-performance engine, while the fascia is an evolution of the NSX and Acura Precision Concept.

Meanwhile, the Pebble Beach concept auto will also reboot the Type S badge in general. The model will be debuted on August 15 at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, a part of California's Monterey Car Week 2019. It will also be on display at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event on the Concept Lawn, on August 18. For a start, Acura says that the Type S Concept will be instrumental in helping shape the upcoming TLX Type S, the second-generation of its performance sedan. However, the profile of the Type S concept also takes on the proportions of a rear-drive vehicle with a long hood and short deck that brings to mind the sport sedans made by Lexus and Infiniti. "From bringing back the NSX to winning at the highest level of North American sports vehicle racing and ushering-in a new generation starting with the RDX, we are revitalizing Acura on the foundation of our original and authentic brand values, piece by piece".

"We've been dreaming about a new performance-focused Acura concept auto since the Precision Concept debuted".

Last year, Honda announced that Acura's Type S performance model line will be making a comeback after a decade-long break.

Unlike the Civic Type R, the vents and grille on the Acura Type S concept will actually be functional.

Out back, the concept features a unique trunk with a carbon fiber spoiler and a creased centerline that echoes the one on the hood. More LEDs appear at the back, alongside a forged carbon spoiler, quad chrome exhaust outlets, and a sizable diffuser.

A "square" 285-series summer tire setup ensures high levels of grip in the most dynamic of driving situations. It rides on 21-inch wheels with Brembo four-piston brake calipers at each corner.

The concept wears a bespoke "Double Apex Blue Pearl" paint job that looks terrific thanks to "nano-infused pigments" and "a color-infused clear coat", with the aforementioned forged carbon adding an interesting carbon corkboard kind of texture to add some detail around the edges.
