Hickenlooper Expected To End 2020 bid On Thursday

Despite the reports of a possible drop-out, Roll Call reported Hickenlooper is still fundraising for his presidential campaign in a long-shot effort to reach the 130,000 unique donor threshold to qualify for the next round of debates. "But I will never stop believing that America can only move forward when we work together", Hickenlooper tweeted.

Hickenlooper launched his presidential campaign five months ago. In nearly every aspect, this journey has been more exciting and more rewarding than I ever imagined. "Although, of course I did imagine a very different conclusion", he added. Cory Gardner is all but mandatory if Democrats hope to have any chance of retaking the Senate. "Just want to make that clear - governors are closer to the people".

"I've heard from so many Coloradans who want me to run for the United States Senate", he said in a statement.

"[Coloradans] remind me what's at stake for our country, and our state", he said in the video.

Speaking from a rooftop overlooking El Paso, O'Rourke said, "I don't know that I've been doing a good enough job to match that threat with the urgency and the honesty and the clarity that it deserves". "And I always will".

"John was a great mayor and governor, and helped shape the presidential race with his pragmatic viewpoint", Bennet said of Hickenlooper.

On the debate stage in July, Hickenlooper spoke less than any other candidate on the first night of that round, but he tried to position himself as a foil to the progressive front-runners, especially Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

O'Rourke, who hasqualified for the September debate, has also struggled and is now relaunching his campaign for the second time.

"Hickenlooper is personally popular among likely Democratic primary voters, with 77 percent of them saying they would have a favorable reaction if he chose to enter the Senate race", pollster Geoff Garin said this week.

As a presidential candidate, Hickenlooper only seemed to generate headlines when he misspoke: The former small-business owner refused to concede to MSNBC host Joe Scarborough that he was a "capitalist", then flipped his messaging around and explicitly ran against socialism. Hickenlooper said in his video Thursday he hasn't decided yet whether he'll challenge Gardner. He pressed ahead with his presidential campaign following that conversation, visiting the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines this past weekend along with numerous other presidential candidates.

Mr. Hickenlooper is not expected to announce a decision Thursday on whether he will run for Senate in Colorado, though he has been discussing the possibility with advisers.

Other high-profile Senate races have also gained traction in election coverage, including Kentucky Democrat Amy McGrath's campaign to unseat Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell-a notorious bulwark against Democratic legislative progress in Congress.

"I think that with so many candidates, it is going to be hard to get your share of the media; but the media responds to... it's not just the Trumpian approach of outrage that gets the media's attention", Hickenlooper said. But the Democrats' comparatively low-profile aim to secure a Senate majority in 2020 could have a lasting impact on the foreseeable future of US politics. Eleven Democrats are already running in the Colorado primary, although a number of polls indicate that Hickenlooper could mount the most serious challenge to Gardner.

Hickenlooper, a geologist by training who started a successful brewery in downtown Denver and then served two terms as the city's mayor before winning the governorship, left office in January with an approval rating almost 20 percentage points above water.
