Chargers' James out with stress fracture in foot

Los Angeles Chargers star safety Derwin James will undergo foot surgery after suffering a stress fracture in his fifth metatarsal and is expected to miss about three months, sources told Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

James could be back in time for a playoff push or the postseason. According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, James was injured during Thursday's practice and was spotted today in a walking boot. He was outstanding in his rookie season, being chosen first-team All-Pro while starting all 16 games and playing a team-high 99 percent of defensive snaps.

Derwin James leaves a big hole in the Chargers defense. However, it is being reported that they will continue to evaluate his situation.

The #Chargers suffered a tough loss yesterday in practice.

Walmart is also weighing whether to take additional steps on its gun policies. Walmart has said it has no plans to stop selling guns.

After just one season in the NFL, James has established himself as one of the most highly regarded safeties in football.

There are a handful of stars now nursing injuries this preseason, and unfortunately we can add one more to the list. So, if the Chargers opt to be patient with James, how long can they hold him out to ensure a full recovery?

He also had 3.5 sacks, three interceptions, and 13 pass deflections.

This is obviously an enormous blow for the Chargers, who were already dealing with Melvin Gordon's holdout, Keenan Allen's ankle injury and Russell Okung's pulmonary embolism.
