Nightdive Studios is officially working on System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition

While we're still waiting for the full remake of System Shock 1 from Night Dive Studios, the remaster house had a nice announcement out of the blue: System Shock 2 is getting an "Enhanced Edition" of its own. The developer has already remastered a number of titles such as Turok and Blood: Fesh Supply. Nightdive briefly announced the game on Twitter and said it's "coming soon", but how it will improve on the original and when exactly it will arrive is anyone's guess. The System Shock: Enhanced Edition released in 2015 supported higher resolutions, adapted the game into a new engine, supported newer graphics cards, added support for mods, and fixed loads of bugs. It'll likely be a few years since the System Shock remake is expected to release in 2020, though that could change at some point.

System Shock 2 is a classic from the 90s that had a big part in creating the genre we now refer to as the Immersive Sim.

As for what the Enhanced Edition of System Shock 2 will contain, fans can look back on the Enhanced Edition of the original System Shock for reference. It could be as simple as a 4K PC re-release, or it could be as ambitious as a multi-platform relaunch for one of the best sci-fi games of all time. This can even be seen in BioShock, which acts as a spiritual successor of sorts, which even has similarities in story beats to System Shock 2.
