Ex-NBAer Telfair sentenced to 3.5 years in prison

He was driving a Ford F-150 with a friend around 2.50am on June 11, 2017 when police said they pulled over the duo because their truck's headlights weren't on.

After the officer smelled the burning marijuana, he searched the vehicle and found multiple loaded guns, ammunition, extended magazines, and a bullet-proof vest in addition to marijuana, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office.

Sebastian Telfair was the 13th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, but the former Boston Celtics guard was sentenced to three and a half years in prison on Monday. Telfair appeared in front of a jury on Monday, pleading the judge, "Please don't take me from society right now". "I am 34. I can go play in China for six years and take care of my family".

It was unclear how many flights were impacted, according to Doris Lai, a spokesperson for the Hong Kong Airport Authority. Hong Kong police rules state that such non-lethal ammunition should be shot at people's body or limbs, not at their head.

The hometown hero originally from Brooklyn made his National Basketball Association dreams come true in 2004 when the Portland Trailblazers selected him with their 13th overall pick in the first round of that year's National Basketball Association draft.

Telfair was also arrested on gun charges in 2007.

In 2004, Telfair was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and over the next two years his experiences inspired a book and a documentary.

According to TMZ, Telfair could have faced up to 15 years in prison in the most recent case, but was given the minimum sentence of three years.
