Jio GigaFiber and JioPhone 3 to launch on Monday

Jio GigaFiber and JioPhone 3 to launch on Monday

Speculations suggest that GigaTV set-top boxes will be able to stream TV channels in 4K and will offer as standard 600 channels.

JioFiber plans will start from Rs 700 per month and will offer a host of smart services through the Jio set-top box.

Ambani had, in the RIL AGM previous year, opened up the registration process for GigaFiber. "Jio and Microsoft have entered into a long-term alliance to accelerate the digital transformation of India to launch new cloud data centres, ensuring more organisations can access the tools and platforms they need to build their own digital capability", said Mukesh Ambani.

"Make sure you register your interest, and more importantly make sure that your neighbors register so that your locality will be among the first to get", the billionaire had said in his speech a year ago.

We can also expect Reliance to launch GigaFiber and GigaTV finally. The device is likely to be based on KaiOS with support for apps like YouTube, Google Maps, WhatsApp, and Facebook. To recall, Jio GigaFiber has been in testing since 2016, despite only being announced last month.

In addition to the above, customers have to spend around Rs 250 per month for watching cable TV, taking the total to about Rs 1,150 plus taxes. The company's also offering unlimited free calls to the United States and Canada for Rs 500 ($7.04) per month. This means that the broadband component is being priced at just around Rs 250 per month.

The detailed break down of the JioFiber plans will only be available on Jio.com on 5 September.

It is expected to lead to massive consolidation in the sector, which now has an estimated 10,000 or so cable operators and around half a dozen DTH services. The users who will pay the annual package fee in advance will get the free TV from Jio.

The second biggest player is Bharti Airtel, which has around 2.3 million wired broadband connections.

"Jio Fiber Services to be launched on commercial basis on 5 September 2019 - on the third anniversary of Jio's launch".

Ambani also said, "Over the next 12 months, Reliance Jio will install one of the largest blockchain networks in the world in India, with tens of thousands of nodes operational on day one".
