Rogers Cup: Rafael Nadal in dominant form versus Guido Pella

Rafael Nadal and Fabio Fognini meet in the quarterfinals of the 2019 tennis Rogers Cup.

Meanwhile, second-seeded Dominic Thiem of Austria took down a crowd favorite, outlasting Canadian Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. And he was back this year where he won the first of those titles, in Montreal in 2005, to defend his Rogers Cup title for the first time.

"Today, the main thing was win".

Nadal told the ATP: "We talked a little bit with the team before the match that maybe sometimes if he was blocking the returns it was a chance to go to the net". "From the first practice I had here, then all the way to this match today was just insane. Tomorrow is another challenge".

In other action, Poland's Hubert Hurkacz stunned No. 4 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, France's Richard Gasquet upset fifth seed Kei Nishikori of Japan 6-7 (6), 6-2, 7-6 (4), and Chile's Cristian Garin downed No. 12 John Isner of the United States 6-3, 6-4.

Nadal is seeking his third title of the season and now stands 38-6 in 2019.

Wednesday's contest was Nadal's first match since losing to Roger Federer in the semifinals at Wimbledon last month.

Thiem was relieved to have broken his duck in Canada by finally winning a match.

In the final two sets, Nadal lost just two points on his first serve and across the match, despite making only 57 per cent of first serves but he won 88 per cent of points and hit seven aces.

Flight attendant stumbles, passes out before takeoff
While in early August, a United Airlines pilot faced charges in Scotland over allegedly being drunk prior to a flight to Newark. Sara Nelson, president of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, chimed in on the story, WISN-TV reported.

"Things happen quickly here because the court is fast". It was a huge transition from clay to here.

Evans saved two set points on his serve in the 10th game and held his nerve to force a tie-break after another untimely stoppage for rain when serving at 5-6 down, but it was Nadal's turn to save two set points in the tie-break and the left-hander sealed it when Evans pushed a forehand wide. "I m also happy that I could swing free some flat serves again".

Second seed Dominic Thiem booked his spot in the quarter-finals courtesy of a 7-6 (9-7) 6-4 victory over Croatian Marin Cilic.

Rogers Cup defending champion Rafael Nadal ultimately had too much for Dan Evans despite a tough start and long delays.

"It was a tough first set", Nadal said. "Then when you finish Wimbledon, it's like your body lose a little bit that tension, so it needs little bit of time to recover".

Nadal advanced after two hours of play but because of rain it took nearly four and a half hours after the first ball was struck.

The senior Canadian beat the youngster in spring, 2018 in Indian Wells in their only completed match.

The Spanish star beat Great Britain's Daniel Evans 7-6 (6), 6-4 in a match delayed by rain three times on Wednesday at IGA Stadium.

Thiem and Zverev, the second and third seeds respectively, bowed out with straight-sets losses.
