Samsung Announces Exynos 9825 With 5G Connectivity, AI Features and More

In a little more than 13 hours, Samsung's Unpacked event will kick off and the launch of its new Galaxy10 series smartphones will be official.

Other features on the chip are a 4G LTE modem that tops out at 2Gbps and Samsung's "neural processing unit" that will power AI photography and augmented reality features.

"Thanks to the enhanced clock speed of the two Cortex-A75 cores and the 7nm EUV technology, the Exynos 9825 is both lightning fast and power efficient so you get optimized performance without sacrificing battery life", Samsung says.

The Exynos 9825 has the same M4 cores that we saw in the Exynos 9810, so there isn't going to be a huge performance differential between the two chipsets.

Samsung switched to the 8nm node with last year's Exynos 9810, and while the manufacturer made huge strides when it comes to CPU performance, energy efficiency is an area where the platform lags behind its rivals. It comprises an octa-core CPU, an ARM Mali-G76 MP12 GPU, and the previously mentioned NPU. "Equipped with an advanced neural processing unit, it's also delivering powerful AI experiences including personalized voice assistants and intelligent camera features, so you always get the ideal shot". 5G is not built into the processor, so Samsung will likely use its Exynos Modem 5100 for 5G variants of the Note 10. On a side note, the chipset still supports LPDDR4X memory and USF3.0 and UFS2.1 storage. As for video recording, the Exynos 9825 SoC can handle up to 8K Ultra HD video encoding and decoding in multi-format codec (MFC). The processor can host one 22-megapixel camera each on the front and rear, or a dual-camera setup with two 16-megapixel sensors. It also supports 4K UHD displays (4096 x 2160) and WQUXGA displays (3840 x 2400).
