How Cowboys' Jason Witten is taking Ezekiel Elliott's holdout

"I don't want to seem cavalier about it, but I also don't want to be unrealistic being alarmed about it", Jones said. I haven't really been thinking about my contract situation because I don't know. "This is the air we breathe".

When Emmitt held out back in 1993, the Dallas Cowboys were the reigning Super Bowl champions, and he was backed up by former Alabama running back Derrick Lassic.

Jones went to great lengths to defend Elliott during the investigation over the domestic case, even threatening to sue his fellow owners over a contract extension for Roger Goodell when Jones was upset with the commissioner over Elliott's punishment.

A conservative approach would have the Cowboys use former sixth round pick, running back Darius Jackson, as the fill in for Elliott, but in my opinion, the Cowboys legitimately have two options, both rookies who they will lean on if Elliott decides to holdout beyond the preseason.

And while the Cowboys have reasons to be hesitant towards rewarding Elliott with a hefty contract since running backs in the National Football League tend to get worn down faster than other positions, at least this holdout obviously benefits the Eagles. Mike Weber Jr. was taken in the seventh round out of Ohio State, Elliott's alma mater.

"I've got some advice for you", said Lawrence, who is on the physically unable to perform list.

Elliott isn't the only young star looking for a new contract. Plus, Amari Cooper is entering his final season on his current contract in 2019.

As all Cowboys fans know, the team started that season with two straight losses but rebounded to win the franchise's fourth championship.

"We've worked on multiple ones before", executive vice president of personnel Stephen Jones said.

Now it's time to see whether a star holding out will change things.

The Cowboys have made what they believe is a "solid" offer and reportedly are waiting for Elliott's representation to counter. WR Noah Brown (knee surgery) also is on PUP.
