The Trump impeachment vote that few Democrats wanted

'She is Speaker of the House.

King raised the issue by asking if they'd been in touch with Pelosi.

On Sunday, the President told the four minority lawmakers to "go back" to their "crime infested" countries.

Trump said he couldn't be bothered to learn Ocasio-Cortez's name, telling his audience that he would simply call her "Cortez".

Tlaib decried "the normalization" of Trump's remarks as well as 'the fact that it's against our core American values.

Green's measure, which is expected to receive a vote on Wednesday, could be either sent to a committee, approved on the spot or tabled (thereby killing it), according to NBC News.

He's hoping to do it again in 2020, and his incendiary attacks this week on four left-leaning Democratic congresswomen are part of his electoral strategy.

Trump's tweets were directed at four freshman congresswomen from the left-wing of the Democratic Party: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of MA and Rashida Tlaib of MI.

'The Republican vote was 187-4. Wow! The House voted Tuesday largely along party lines to condemn those statements.

All five voted in favor of moving forward with impeachment on Wednesday. The president had kept up his Twitter attacks the day before, but the Democratic women couldn't resist working their earlier gripe against a woman who outranks them in age and power.

All are American and all but Omar were born in the U.S. They've been among the Democratic party's most outspoken advocates for impeaching the president. Ms Omar was born in Somalia, but the rest of the women were born in the US.

Rep. Al Green (D-Texas), a vocal critic of the president, is forcing a vote (through a quirk in the House rules) on a resolution to impeach Trump for his recent "racist comments" about four progressive House Democrats "that have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color".

Four Republicans and an independent joined the Democrats to pass the symbolic measure 240-187 three days after Trump's tweets caused a firestorm in Washington.

'These comments from the White House are disgraceful and disgusting and these comments are racist, ' Pelosi said.

Further polling adds fuel to the partisan divide: a USA Today/Ipsos online poll released Wednesday morning indicates only 25% of polled Republicans agreed Trump's tweets were "un-American", while an overwhelming 88% of Democrats and 59% of the general public agreed.

Pelosi's comments put the House into a two-hour limbo after Republicans argued she went too far in her comments and broke debate rules.

Trump, who during his 2016 campaign voiced harsh assessments of the state of the country, tweeted a video in advance of the rally that featured patriotic scenes of the president meeting Americans, with frequent images of the U.S. flag.

"I think that America has always been a story, and America has always been about the triumph of people who fight for everyone versus those who want to preserve rights for just a select few", Ocasio-Cortez told CBS's Gayle King.
