The tragedy fed the hashtag #RIPBianca and fueled online outrage about the images that showed up and were shared on Discord, Instagram and other social media platforms.

He then laid down on a green tarp under which Ms Devins' body was found and took selfies before officers took him into custody, police said.

The case is being investigated by Utica police as a murder and attempted suicide.

Clark was transported to a hospital and was treated for his injuries, police said. His injuries are described as severe but he is expected to survive.

Two month into their relationship, police say Clark documented Devins' murder online.

Brandon Andrew Clark allegedly posted graphic pictures of the 17-year-old's dead sitting in a auto across a number of social media sites.

Devins had recently graduated from high school and was planning to attend a community college in the area this fall, the family said.

Amid rumors that the two met on Discord, Devins" sister wrote on Instagram, "it wasn't just an "internet boyfriend' this was a close family friend whom we've met and trusted so much. She will always be remembered as our princess". They utilised this as a means of communication primarily, and their relationship progressed into a personally intimate one. After the attack, Clark allegedly logged on to Discord under his username "aperatia" and posted a photo of Devins' body, (see image below) writing, 'sorry fxckers, you're going to have to find somebody else to orbit'.

'I hate that I have to write this.I hate knowing you're not going to ever come back home.

Clark then moved to a green tarp, also near the vehicle, and laid across it.

'I am heartbroken for her and all her loved ones'. It's sad, reddit and 4chan have full gore communities that publicize this stuff.

"This is so sick".

Instagram did not immediately respond to INSIDER's request for comment.

Police located 21-year-old Brandon Clark after he called 911. This event had no affiliation with the race, and no race participants were involved or affected in anyway.

Instagram issued a statement Monday saying it had removed an image from account @yesjuliet for violating its policies and had taken steps to prevent other users from re-uploading the image to the social platform. She shared screenshots with the Daily Dot of a group chat on Discord where both Chels and Devins participated.

"While we're expecting legal powers to enforce regulation here in the United Kingdom, it's clearly in the interests of Facebook to demonstrate its intention and ability to comply with future laws by taking urgent action in removing these images".
