Harry Styles Rumored to Play Prince Eric in Live-Action Little Mermaid

The 25-year-old British singer with Disney-prince good looks is in preliminary discussions to play Prince Eric opposite Halle Bailey's Ariel, EW has learned; a source clarifies to EW that these talks are still "premature".

Harry Kinds goes underneath the ocean.

Styles, who's perhaps best known for his boy-band career with One Direction, made his big screen debut in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, where he played a young British soldier named Alex.

As for Prince Eric's role in The Little Mermaid, he falls in love with Ariel after she saves him from drowning.

The man from the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino was arrested in a hotel near Italy's Forli airport, according to Swiss media. His collection included street signs from the Nazi era, including one reading "Adolf-Hitler Platz".

Styles joins a cast that includes Halle Bailey (Grown-ish) in the lead role as Ariel plus Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Ariel's best friend who is a fish; Awkwafina as Scuttle, the seagull friend of the princess; and Melissa McCarthy, who is now in talks to play the role of the vile Ursula.

Production on the new version of The Little Mermaid is due to begin in 2020, with a release date still to be confirmed. Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote songs for "Moana", is teaming up with Alan Menken to write songs for the new project. Melissa McCarthy's casting as Ursula remains rumored.

"The Little Mermaid" live-action musical will be directed by Rob Marshall ("Mary Poppins Returns"). The Little Mermaid will be another live-action Disney remake following films like The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and the upcoming Mulan. However, that was remedied in the 2000s Broadway musical, with Eric now performing several, including two solos.
