De Ligt set for medical exam with Juventus

De Ligt is due to undergo his medical with the club on Wednesday morning, with Football Italia suggesting that Juventus are likely to officially confirm the move later in the day.

The 19-year-old helped Erik ten Hag's side complete a domestic double last season while racking up over 50 appearances across all competitions.

De Ligt will continue his career at Juventus.

"We're awaiting bank guarantees because we are very strict with this at Ajax. You are disappointed that you have lost and that is the only thing you are thinking about".

De Ligt has been linked with many of Europe's leading clubs after his impressive play for resurgent Ajax and Netherland teams last season.

South African music legend Johnny Clegg dies at age 66
Clegg was born in England to an English father and Rhodesian (Zimbabwean) mother but moved to South Africa as a young child. South Africa's government said in a statement that "his music had the ability to unite people across the races".

De Ligt also revealed that Ronaldo was his first idol while growing and could have swayed his decision to move to the Italian topflight.

"Edson is a player we think is good, so he might come to us".

The Netherlands worldwide is on the verge of joining Juventus for £63m, but Barcelona launched one final effort to bring him to the Camp Nou.

Juventus, meanwhile, will take their summer spending beyond €100 million ($90m, £113m) with the acquisition of De Ligt, having already brought in Cristian Romero, Luca Pellegrini and Merih Dermiral.

De Ligt will link up with former Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri at Juve and fellow new signings Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey as the Bianconeri aim to win a ninth straight Scudetto.
