Amazon's pouring more resources into Alexa-powered home robot

Could that monstrosity (reportedly made by his children) have been the inspiration for an Alexa-powered home robot? Prototypes of the cylindrical speaker are wider than the current Echo to squeeze in additional components including at least four tweeters, said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss an internal matter.

Amazon is preparing to launch an improved version of its Echo smart speaker by next year, according to a new report from Bloomberg .

Both devices are being developed by Amazon Lab126, a research and development arm based in Sunnyvale, California. We shouldn't expect this new Echo to appear before the end of 2019, but it could never see the light of day if Amazon decides tweaks to its existing line-up are enough when they inevitably get refreshed.

Originally reported on Bloomberg past year, current prototypes of the bot are about waist-high, feature advanced cameras and computer vision, and can navigate through homes like driverless cars. The robot Vesta, recently detailed by Bloomberg, has haggles be constrained by Alexa voice directions, the general population said.

Bloomberg reports today on the development of a wheeled Alexa robot that may be in the market by next year.

Better audio means not only being able to charge more for the unit, but an ability for Amazon to better compete with the likes of the Apple HomePod and Sonos One. However, in spite of Amazon's efforts to build the highest market share, Google is still taking lead with around 31% share. The company has in the past introduced a standalone subwoofer and connections to link the speakers to home stereo systems. The new products give Amazon a greater reach than ever before. "Not saying that'd be dumb-but it's also sort of pointless to shell out hundreds of dollars if what you're getting is basically the equivalent of sticking an Echo speaker on a Roomba".

It's unclear what tasks the Amazon robot might perform.

The revamped Echo Dot has a new look, with rounded edges, and packs more punch, with a 1.6-inch driver delivering 70-per cent-louder audio than the previous model.

Releasing a new version of the Echo that is created to take advantage of the better audio could help the company do just that, and Amazon could possibly make the service a part of its Prime subscription, which means people wouldn't have to actually spend any extra money on using it, they would simply need a speaker that was capable of meeting the hardware requirements to output the higher quality sound. Whether it's for making calls, playing music or just asking questions that you're too busy to Google, an Echo Smart Speaker is a must have device for any modern home.
