Former soccer player, Marc Batchelor, gunned down

The former Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs football player was shot dead on Monday evening.

Police confirmed that Batchelor was attacked by two men as he was entering his house.

Batchelor died after he was shot several times in his auto outside his home in Olivedale, northern Johannesburg.

"He was shot through the window several times and died at the scene".

His goal in the 2-1 win over South Africa in the last round made 20-year-old Chukwueze the youngest goalscorer at the tournament. Three of their AFCON semis have gone to penalties (winning once in 1980 and losing in 1984 and 1988).


"I am shocked to learn about the passing of former Kaizer Chiefs player Marc Batchelor", Motaung said in a club statement. The suspects then drove away without taking anything.

Batchelor, a colourful character in South African football, was a witness in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial.

An associate of Batchelor, Nafiz Modack told News24 that, "My comment [to] those who shot him [is they] should be afraid, very afraid".
