Ben Stokes likely to be knighted for his World Cup heroics

British Prime Minister Theresa May greeted members of the England cricket team outside downing street following their World Cup victory.

"I'm sure when they were writing the rules they never expected a World Cup final like that", Stead said.

In what is being hailed as the greatest World Cup final at Lord's on Sunday, England were adjudged winners on the basis of their superior boundary count - 22 fours and two sixes - to New Zealand's 17 after the epic final, and the ensuing super over, ended in a tie.

"I'm sure it'll be reviewed".

Since being unceremoniously dumped out of the 2015 edition of the tournament in Australia, the England side have reinvented themselves as one-day cricket specialists and had headed into the World Cup as overwhelming favourites.

Prior to the vote, 35 states had signed up as co-sponsors of the resolution, according to the Government of Iceland's website.

"I didn't actually know that", said Stead when asked about the law. We thought it took us all the way but it was not to be."The rules are the rules and we all try and play by them as did England who also had a very good campaign", the Black Caps skipper added. "It will go down in history as one that got away from us".

"You don't need to smash your equipment, yell at the umpire, or swear at and threaten rival batsmen, even with the stress of a World Cup on your mind; this news will be foreign territory to some".

"At the moment, however, with some players arriving back at different times, some not arriving back at all, and others having alternative playing commitments, it's just not practical", they said. "Hopefully, given the interest surrounding this, we can organise something appropriate in the weeks to come", he added.

While New Zealanders were eager to honor the performance of the team, White said, the players "were just as keen to have the chance to publicly express their own appreciation and gratitude".
