Spanish court rules Julio Iglesias is father of 43-year old man

A 20 YEAR legal battle regarding a paternity suit against the Spanish singer Julio Iglesias has reached a Valencia court, and today a Judge ruled that he considered the claimant to be the singer's son.

Javier Sanchez-Santos, who claims to be the son of award-winning Spaniard Julio Iglesias, arrives to appear before a court in Valencia for a paternity case at City of Justice in Valencia.

He also cited the "obvious physical resemblance" between Iglesias and Sanchez - and the singer's steadfast refusal to carry out a DNA test despite evidence of the affair. In 1992, a Spanish judge ruled that the singer was indeed Sanchez-Santos' father, but the ruling was quashed on appeal in 1994, according to El Pais.

Julio's defence team had argued that the trial should not take place since the case had already gone to court before and had been dismissed. He cited a "relationship" that existed between Iglesias and Santos "near the date of conception" and the fact that Iglesias refused to take a paternity test.

The new case was begun in 2017 after DNA evidence was brought from America by a detective.

Julio Iglesias' lawyer Fernando Falomir told CNN the singer would appeal the ruling and said Iglesias wouldn't refuse to submit to a DNA test under certain circumstances as part of the appeals process.

The detective managed to get hold of a water bottle that the singer's son Julio Iglesias Jr was drinking from when he was surfing in Miami.

"Javier won the trial". Three of his children were born out of his first marriage to Isabel Preysler and five with his wife Miranda Rijnsburger - they were born between 1971 and 2007.
