New Zealand stun India by 18 runs to reach World Cup final

On Wednesday, Team India ended their dream run in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup as they got humbled by New Zealand in the first semifinal match of the tournament.

Speaking of the match, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first, after which Ross Taylor (74) and Kane Williamson (67) played the most important roles as the Kiwis finished at 239/8 in 50 overs.

The Indian team who were widely seen as one of the favourites to lift the trophy were bundled out for 221 at Old Trafford with Matt Henry's bowling spell wreaking havoc on their batting top order. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were dismissed for one run each within 5 runs as India was down with 6 wickets before they crossed 100.

New Zealand pace spearhead Trent Boult said Ravindra Jadeja and Mahendra Singh Dhoni's partnership had his team concerned during the semifinal clash here as the two absorbed the pressure nicely to keep India in the hunt. "We knew it would be tough for them if we took early wickets and that gave us the platform we needed", he added.

He said some of them had been chopped into pieces and their body parts were hard to recognise. It is far one in all the worst outbreaks of tribal violence in PNG for years.

Faced with a seemingly unattainable target, the Indians sensed urgency, and Dhoni and partner Bhuvneshwar Kumar pushed for a second run on the fourth ball of the penultimate over. We had a good day yesterday and I'm very proud of that effort.

New Zealand will face the victor of the second semifinal, between Australia and England, in Lord's on Sunday.

"With the new ball they were outstanding with the areas that they hit".
