World Cup semi-final to resume with NZ 211-5 against India

The first semifinal between India and New Zealand at Old Trafford, Manchester on Tuesday was suspended due to rain and will resume on Wednesday, which is the reserve day allotted for the match as per the ICC rules.

Tuesday's game is a repeat of the semi-final of the 2008 Under-19 World Cup in which a Kohli-led India defeated a Williamson-captained New Zealand in Kuala Lumpur.

Speaking during the rain interruption in India's World Cup 2019 semifinal clash against New Zealand on Star Sports' Cricket Live Show, the 47-year-old joked that there were "too many gentlemen" in his team.

After a brilliant start by Jasprit Bumrah (1/25 in 8 overs) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/30 in 8.1 overs), Ravindra Jadeja (1/38 off 10 overs) and Hardik Pandya (1/55 in 10 overs) did well in the middle overs to keep the opposition under check.

Austrian Bernd Wiesberger and England's Andy Sullivan were two strokes back on 16 under. I love the people and feel like I'm at home every time I come.

India have to bat at least 20 overs to achieve a result one way or the other.

Guptill was therefore spared a third golden duck of the tournament but the out-of-form opener would not last, contributing one off 14 balls before prodding at Bumrah and edging to Kohli at second slip.

In fact, during the crucial second Powerplay, New Zealand managed only 65 runs in 17 overs as Chahal got decent turn off his leg-breaks.

Taylor struggled for fluency but was gradually building momentum before a steady drizzle turned heavier as the players were brought off at 2pm local time, with the Black Caps 3.5 overs short of completing their innings. But it is advantage India if play is indeed washed off again on the reserve day. A tied match will use a super over to determine the victor. Williamson paid the price by gifting his wicket to the leg-spinner when his team needed him the most. He also picked up the wicket of Henry Nicholls (28). "If after the reserve day the match has still not reached a result, India will progress to the final given their higher finishing position in the group stage".
