Serena Williams vs Alison Riske, Wimbledon 2019

Serena Williams was fined $10,000 on Monday after reportedly damaging a court before the start of the Wimbledon tournament.

"It was really, actually, very interesting for me to be on the opposite end, because I felt her up her game and her intensity", Riske said with a smile.

Williams, a seven-time Wimbledon champion who missed about a year of play while she had a baby in 2017 but returned to the tennis tour in 2018, entered the tournament without having played since the third round of the French Open - skipping the grass-court warm-up tournaments. Then Williams went out and joined Andy Murray to win their second-round match in mixed doubles 7-5, 6-3 against Fabrice Martin and Raquel Atawo.

With a first Grand Slam final beckoning in the French Open semi-finals last month, Konta lost 7-5 7-6 to teenager Marketa Vondrousova, blowing 5-3 leads in both sets.

In addition to eight Wimbledon singles championships, Williams has won in doubles six times - all with sister Venus Williams in 2000, 2002, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2016 - and mixed doubles once (1998).

Strycova, whose previous best at a Grand Slam was the 2014 quarter-final also at Wimbledon, outplayed Britain's Johanna Konta once she extricated herself from a 4-1 deficit in the first set.

"If every time you went in to work, let's say you went into work because., and let's say for a few years your pieces of writing have just been crap every time when you come into Roland Garros".

That helped them take the serve of Martin, who had earlier fired a 133mph serve down, to surge into a 3-0 lead in the second set. Strycova got 69 percent of her first serves in play, was broken just once and had only nine unforced errors. And rather than play doubles during the United States hard-court swing, he said he may opt to take a break from competition after Wimbledon and focus on training instead.

Following the match, Konta addressed the media and talked about her match. Riske converted all five break points she generated. Beyond grateful for this last 4 years. This is not the first time Williams has been fined at Wimbledon.

Wimbledon isn't just costing its attendees money: Tennis legend Serena Williams is also shelling out a hefty sum of cash after being fined at the tournament. After beating teenage sensation Coco Gauff in straight sets, Halep will take on Zhang Shuai of China in the quarterfinals.
