Barr: Mueller's Hill testimony will be 'public spectacle'

The House of Representatives committee will also consider subpoenas for documents and testimony relating to a separate probe of Trump immigration policies, including family separation.

The Democratic-led U.S. House Judiciary Committee will consider authorizing subpoenas this week to compel testimony from a dozen current and former Trump administration officials, including Jared Kushner, as part of an intensifying investigation into President Donald Trump's conduct.

The list also includes Keith Davidson, an attorney who previously represented adult-film actress Stormy Daniels.

Asked in the Oval Office about the subpoenas several hours after they were issued, Trump said, 'I don't know anything about it'. "Trump's former attorney and fixer Michael Cohen orchestrated a $130,000 payment to Daniels to buy her silence over an alleged affair with Trump". Mueller pointedly said he would have exonerated Trump if he could have but did not.

Barr and Mueller, who are longtime friends and colleagues, had been at odds over the handling of the report's release, and Barr has criticized Mueller for not coming to a conclusion on one of the report's key questions: whether the President committed obstruction of justice. "Many questions remain and it is past time for a full accounting of this policy and practice", Nadler said in a statement.

Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general until a few months, Jeff Sessions, the first president's first attorney general, and David Pecker, the National Enquirer owner, were also listed among the dozen that are being summoned.

The subpoenas would also demand that the appropriate witnesses provide information regarding the committee's various ongoing probes that have been opened since Democrats took the House majority and in light of the Mueller report, which Democrats allege prove Trump committed obstruction of justice.

France's eco-tax on flights criticised by airlines and activists
French President Emmanuel Macron 's government has said it wants to put the environment at the centre of its policies. France also hopes to push for an end to global tax exemptions on jet fuel to reduce Carbon dioxide emissions.

Rep. Doug Collins, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, dismissed the subpoena votes as the "latest effort to re-litigate the special counsel's investigation".

Donaldson was stopped from answering questions on a multitude of topics that were central to the former special counsel Robert Mueller's obstruction-of-justice investigation into President Donald Trump. Mueller wrote that there was not enough evidence to establish a conspiracy between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, but detailed extensive contacts between the two.

Once the committee votes to authorize a subpoena, the chair may issue it at their discretion.

"This week, the Committee will take an important step in moving forward with oversight of the Trump Administration".

"Beyond what I've said here today and what is contained in our written work, I do not believe it is appropriate for me to speak further about the investigation or to comment on the actions of the Justice Department before Congress", he said.

"But after I said that, he indicated that he was not interested in testifying, and he held a press conference and issued a press statement making it clear that his testimony really was the report itself and that it wasn't going to go beyond the report", Barr said.
