‘Mulan’ remake first trailer released

‘Mulan’ remake first trailer released

Another person added: "How can you remake Mulan & not have Mushu or the original classic songs in it?!"

Even the film's wuxia element, a term referring to a genre of Chinese martial arts films as well as literature, was being fiercely debated online. Mulan tells the story of a young woman who enrolls in the men-only Imperial Army to protect her family from northern invaders.

As previously reported, Liu Yifei will play the main character and Yoson An will be her love interest, a character named Chen Honghui.

Actress Liu Yifei was cast as Mulan for the remake after a year-long global casting search and has been previously seen in The Forbidden Kingdom and Once Upon a Time, among other films.

The next live-action Disney adaptation will be The Lion King, which hits theaters later this month. However, the controversy didn't prevent it from bagging $900 million at the box office so far. Mulan's family name has been changed from Fa to Hua.

However, she impersonates herself as a man in order to serve her country. It later received a direct-to-video sequel in 2004 that went directly to the closets of many across the world. Disney released a trailer Sunday that featured no musical numbers nor Mushu, the talking dragon.

The first-look comes more than two decades after the release of the original film and while most fans are excited to see it return, many are questioning just how "true" it will be to the classic. Recently, its most prominent part in pop culture has been due to Szechuan Sauce that Rick and Morty fans were rabid to get.

Besides, if you love the music and Mushu, you still have the animated film to enjoy. Disney is hoping you do, because it's remade (or is remaking) all of them as live-action features. After that, the trailer juxtaposes Mulan's preparations to be a "good wife" with scenes of her in an epic battle.
