Fairytale Wimbledon run ends for 15-year-old Gauff

Fairytale Wimbledon run ends for 15-year-old Gauff

If she reaches the quarter-finals, Gauff stands to earn £294,000, not to mention millions more in sponsorship and endorsements as her status grows.

For Gauff, this was her seventh match in short order - three in qualifying, four in the main draw - and while she insisted she wasn't worn out, she looked it.

"I learned a lot", she said. "I want to win every match I play - I try to be a better person on and out of court".

"I hope they learned about me - that I'm a fighter and I'll never give up". "I think just putting in the work definitely raised my confidence because I knew how hard I worked and I knew what shots I could make and what was possible". Gauff then outlasted Polona Hercog in the third round to reach her round of 16 bout against Halep.

So how much did the 15-year-old make from her incredible debut performance at Wimbledon, and what will happen to her career next?

Playing on No. 1 Court, the second biggest stadium at the All England Club, Gauff had plenty of support from the crowd.

Gauff became a sensation of this year's tournament as she emerged from qualifying to be drawn against American legend and five-time Wimbledon champ Venus Williams, the older sister of Serena.

In the run-up to animal rights activists had protested against the event, because the bulls are dying in the evening in the Arena. Three people were rushed to hospital this morning at the start of the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona , northern Spain .

Gauff did save two match points when serving at 5-2 down but this time it was only a temporary reprieve as Halep finished her off in the next game. I'm super-proud of myself.

After the first set, Gauff walked straight back into the dressing room.

Williams, who lost to Angelique Kerber in last year's Wimbledon final, will next face Alison Riske, an unseeded American who upset top-ranked Ash Barty. Djokovic beat Ugo Humbert 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 while Nadal defeated Joao Sousa 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.

Halep has been voted women's tennis' top favorite by fans the past two seasons but against Gauff, even the popular Romanian appeared to be outnumbered on Court 1.

"I still look up to her, even though we're playing the same tournament", she said.

Querrey hit 25 aces and saved all four break points he faced to get past Tennys Sandgren 6-4, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5) in the first all-American men's Week 2 matchup at Wimbledon in 19 years.

Then, the youngster knelt down by her chair for a prayer - a spiritual practice that sticks with her ever since her Dad suggested the pair pray together before heading out on the match court. She has played a lot of matches, and got a lot of attention. She asked for treatment again at 4-1. Yet while she made three double faults in her second service she managed to hold.
